Steampunk build update

Got a whole bunch of parts wrapped in Christmas wrapping today. All the parts we send out to American Supercars for Powdercoating. The color we chose is called Copper wood vein. It has a color and texture of weathered hammered copper. Everything came out awesome. Here's some close up detail pics of some pieces.

Check back soon when we start the final assembly.

On this day in '63

Willie G.Davidson is probably the most recognizable face of Harley-Davidson. He joined the company on February 18, 1963 with a background in industrial design. At the time, the company had no formal styling department. When he was hired the department consisted of two men, Willie G. and the model maker. Influenced by the growing movement, Willie G. and the styling department began experimenting. This resulted in the creation of several iconic motorcycles including the 1971 FX1200 Super Glide, the 1977 Cafe Racer, and the V-Rod, to name a few. In 1970 Willie G. Davidson was named Design Director and later Vice- President of styling. After nearly fifty years with the company, Willie G. retired in April 2012.

The Pope rides a Harley

The Vatican recently auctioned off a Harley-Davidson FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail Classic part of a Bonhams sale of historic rides. The motorcycle's selling price surpassed earlier estimates that put the vehicle between $17,000 and $28,000 and went for $52,651 according to the Fiscal Times. Proceeds will go to the Friendly World Association, a Polish nonprofit.

Digital Technician II

I'm sure you've been in a Harley-Davidson Service Dept. and heard the term Digital Tech. thrown around and wondered what that actually was. The Digital Tech II is a Harley-Davidson exclusive, cutting edge diagnostic tool that holds the latest technologies and innovations for your Harley-Davidson. So here's a few examples of what it can do.

; Display, read and clear trouble codes
: Displays data items
: Performs live test on selected components for trouble shooting
: Vehicle setup info, used when setting up new Harley-Davidson prior to delivery
: System info with real time information displayed
: Module reflash/ Calibration for performance upgrades
: Guided diagnostics for quick and accurate diagnosing of problems
: Animated wiring diagrams showing current flow to various components
:  Integrated Electronic Service manual
: Safety recalls and technical service updates
: Latest radio updates
: Updated reflashes for the latest BOOM! audio upgrades

So I hope this helped out in answering a few questions on what this is and does. It increases our technicians capabilities of fixing it right the first time.

Black History in Harley-Davidson

During all month of February, the Harley-Davidson Museum celebrates the evolution of motorcycle culture through the eyes of African American riders. Individuals who shaped this long and proud history are highlighted through memorabilia and first-hand accounts.
“African Americans have influenced and helped shape motorcycle culture throughout our history. Riding culture is seen differently today because of their numerous contributions to it,” said John Comissiong, director of African American outreach marketing, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “We’re number one in sales to African Americans, and not only are we very proud of our shared history, we’re always looking for new stories to tell.”
The exhibit is featuring the stories of some of these highly influential trail blazers, images of Harley-Davidson legends like William B. Johnson, the first African American Harley-Davidson dealer; Bessie Stringfield, the first known African American woman to ride solo cross-country on a Harley motorcycle in the 1930s and 1940s; and Ben Hardy, the custom builder who helped create one of the most famous motorcycles in the world, Captain America, for the movie Easy Rider which just sold at auction for over a million dollars as seen in my earlier blog.
Harley-Davidson supports and attends a variety of African American events to connect with current riders, such as Atlantic Beach Bike Week, Daytona Black Bike Week and the National Bikers RoundUp, where thousands of African American riders gather in the spirit of unity and in true biker form.
